Tcab releases automatic driving-eligibility checks for 200 countries
Tcab Explorer now includes a driving-eligibility simulator that automatically determines whether licenses from 200 countries allow driving in Japan, using AI image recognition, OCR, and authenticity checks.
TANAAKK Inc. (headquarters: Marunouchi, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director and President: Masayoshi Aoki; hereinafter “TANAAKK”) and TANAAKK EVGRID Inc. (headquarters: Marunouchi, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director and President: Kensuke Suzuki; hereinafter “TANAAKK EVGRID”) have implemented a driving-eligibility simulator in the car-share and car-rental booking app “Tcab Explorer.” It automatically determines whether licenses from 200 countries allow driving in Japan, combining AI image recognition, OCR, and authenticity checks.
Inbound car rental has long faced challenges such as explaining rules, judging driving eligibility, counter communication, accident rates, and staffing. Tcab addresses these with Tcab Suite — a stack of proprietary software for digitally driven inbound rental. In Okinawa and Fukuoka, vehicles support 24-hour departure and return, including delivery to hotels.
Examples in Tcab Suite
- 24-hour booking UI on web, iPhone, and Android
- On-demand delivery to convenient stations
- Digital identity verification covering 200 countries
- Driving-credential OCR, face matching, and authenticity checks in the approval flow
- Customer chat with eight languages and automatic translation
- Merchant apps that streamline recovery, wash, cleaning, fueling, and delivery
- GPS-enabled hardware devices (coming soon)
- Multilingual driving manuals to help prevent accidents
- Insurance pricing models informed by accident rates
Coverage
Pickup is supported at 86 locations in Okinawa and 11 in Fukuoka, including airports, ferry terminals, and urban sites.
Tcab features
Travel-oriented hybrids such as Alphard, Vellfire, and Prius support 24-hour pickup and return in Fukuoka and Okinawa. Ordinary driving fuel is included in the base fare, so a full-tank return is not required. Early results show higher average spend per booking than the legacy TANAAKK rental business (about 2.3× in our data).
What’s next
With profitability in the two-prefecture setup expected within about three months of launch, the FY2027–FY2029 plan aims to open about one prefecture per month and expand across Japan’s 47 prefectures.
